Motorcycle tour through 6 valleys

This motorcycle tour takes us through two countries (Austria/Italy) and two regions (Carinthia/Friuli). You're always close to the starting point, yet there are countless differences , just like the six valleys.

A beautiful journey, one that doesn't look like much on the map, has now come to an end. We never traveled more than about 60km from the starting point, yet we still experienced many different things in the valleys.

We cycle from Tröpolach through the Gailtal Valley via Hermagor to St. Stefan. After the St. Stefan town sign, we turn left to the Windische Höhe . Here we cycle through the wild and romantic Kreuzental Valley and over the Kreuzenhöhe to Feistritz an der Drau. In the village, we turn right into the Drautal Valley and cycle to Villach Nord, where we turn right again.

On this route, just before Villach, we passed a roundabout intended for access to the motorway. We also pass this roundabout, which is now in front of us, and at the second intersection, we turn right towards Bad Bleiberg. The Bleiberg high valley was dominated by mining until the 1970s. But even then, the exploitation of the thermal springs played a significant role. This side valley between the Drau and Gail valleys lies north of the Dobratsch (Villacher Alpe at 2,166 m above sea level).

Caution is advised on this stretch, as there are constant speed cameras , and fellow bikers are often tempted to speed up due to the interesting route. It could be quite costly!

In Nötsch, we've re-entered the Gail Valley and now head toward Villach via Feistritz/Gail, Draschitz, Dreulach, Hohenthurn, and Thörl Magern, crossing the state border to Tarvisio. Before reaching the village, at the "Slovenia" signpost, we turn right and continue to the intersection. Here, we turn right again and continue to the next intersection (narrow spot). Now we turn left and continue straight toward the Predil Pass.

About two kilometers after the town of Cave del Predil, we turn right toward Sella Nevea. Past Lago di Predil, we continue through the Sella Nevea Valley to the top of the pass and continue to Chiusaforte in the Fellatal Valley. We then continue right to Pontebba. Here we turn left into the town. In the town, immediately after the bridge, we turn left again and return to the starting point in Tröpolach via the Nassfeld Pass (1,530 m above sea level).
