Motorcycle tour description
We drive from Tröpolach to Rattendorf/Jenig, where we turn left and drive to Kötschach. Turn left again to the Lesachtal junction and turn right here. The Lesachtal is the first section that a biker should really enjoy. There are endless bends and lots to see. In Maria Luggau, for example, there is a monastery with a basilica. And that in a small mountain village. This is also where we leave Carinthia and head towards East Tyrol.
The Gail rises at Kartitscher Sattel (1,530m above sea level). We have reached the highest point. From there, the road winds its way to Tassenbach in Val Pusteria/Pustertal, which we reach after a few kilometers and turn left at Anras. We are now on the "Pustertaler - Höhenstraße". There are several opportunities to descend into the valley. However, it is advisable to cycle the entire route to Leisach. The landscape with the Lienz Dolomites is breathtaking. Just before Assling there is a wildlife park worth seeing. You are so high above the valley that you think you are not on a bike, but on an airplane.
Caution: The early departure options can easily tempt you to drive off. If you don't want to use them, always make sure you take the right route at the junctions. It is adequately signposted as a panoramic road.
In Leisach we turn back onto the main road and now turn right towards Lienz. In Lienz, we turn right again at the traffic circle and continue through the town in the direction of Carinthia. In Oberdrauburg we turn right over the Drau bridge and cycle over the Gailbergsattel to Kötschach. From there we turn left along the Gailtalbundesstraße back to the starting point in Tröpolach.
