There is plenty to experience on the Weissensee coffee tour. It is worth stopping at sights such as the Hundskirche church, the Forchtensee lake or the Goldeck and taking a break. If necessary to enjoy a coffee.
We were very impressed by the beautiful alpine pastures and the impressive nature. The coffee on the eastern shore of Lake Weissensee is definitely not to be missed.
Kilometers: | approx. 130km |
Travel time: | approx. 2.5 to 3 hours |
Road conditions: | asphalt |
We drive from Tröpolach in the direction of Hermagor, from there continue in the direction of Villach to St. Stefan. Approx. 500m after St. Stefan we leave the Gailtalbundesstraße and turn right towards Windische Höhe. After approx. 4km of steep ascent we reach the Windische Höhe, a beautiful alpine pasture area.
Continue along the wide, well-maintained road into the Kreuztal valley, through the gorge-like landscape (watch out for the road narrowing) to the turn-off: Weissensee Ostufer. We ride through a beautiful, almost untouched landscape. After a few kilometers, the Farchtensee, which is a nature reserve, is on the left. On the eastern shore, perhaps over a cup of coffee, you should take in this impressive natural landscape and the clear, fjord-like lake. You can experience more of this impressive landscape on a Weissensee boat trip (takes approx. 2 hours there and back).
From the lake we take the route back again, this time towards Stockenboi. We ride through a narrow valley and reach Zlan. Here we have the option of taking the panoramic road up to Goldeck (toll road). If we don't take the panoramic road, we stay on this route towards Paternion. After Paternion, we turn right again towards Kreuzen/Hermagor. We turn directly under the highway into the narrow road that leads to the Kreuzenpass road. From there we descend over the Windische Höhe to the Gailtal main road and back towards Hermagor to the starting point in Tröpolach.
