Motorcycle tour description

We cycle from Tröpolach through the Gailtal Valley via Hermagor to St. Stefan. After the St. Stefan town sign, we turn left to the Windische Höhe . Here we cycle through the wild and romantic Kreuzental Valley and over the Kreuzenhöhe to Feistritz an der Drau. In the village, we turn right into the Drautal Valley and cycle to Villach Nord, where we turn right again.

On this route, just before Villach, we’ve already driven through a roundabout designed to provide access to the highway. We’ll drive through this roundabout, which lies ahead of us now, as well, and at the second intersection, we’ll turn right toward Bad Bleiberg. The Bleiberg High Valley was shaped by mining until the 1970s. But even back then, the use of the thermal springs played a significant role. This side valley, located between the Drau and Gail valleys, lies north of the Dobratsch (Villacher Alpe, 2,166 m above sea level).

Caution is advised on this stretch of road, as there are several permanent speed cameras, and fellow motorcyclists are often tempted to speed because of the exciting route. It could end up being quite costly!

In Nötsch, we’ve reached the Gail Valley again and are now heading toward Villach via Feistritz/Gail, Draschitz, Dreulach, Hohenthurn, and Thörl Magern, crossing the state border into Tarviso. Before reaching the town, at the “Slovenia” sign, we turn right and continue to the intersection. Here, we turn right again and continue to the next intersection (a narrow section). Now we turn left and continue straight ahead toward the Predil Pass.

About two kilometers past the village of Cave del Predil, we turn right toward Sella Nevea. Passing Lago di Predil, the route continues through the Sella Nevea Valley to the pass summit and on to Chiusaforte in the Fella Valley. We then continue to the right toward Pontebba. Here, we turn left into the village. In the village, immediately after the bridge, we turn left again and return via the Nassfeld Pass (1,530 m above sea level) to our starting point in Tröpolach.
