Motorcycle tour description
We drive from Tröpolach towards Hermagor - at the ÖAMTC or before the Hermagor signpost, turn right towards Möderndorf - from there continue to the Egger Alm. The road is well maintained and offers many idyllic views. At the first bend is the entrance to the Garnitzenklamm gorge. This gorge is only accessible on foot, but is well worth a visit. You should take the time to visit it.
The road winds its way up the mountain through another 13 hairpin turns, and after about 11 km, you’ll reach the Egger Alm. Two inns where you can stop for a bite to eat and many smaller huts provide lodging for dairymen and locals during the summer months (1,416 m above sea level). We continue along the road to the next alpine pasture, the Dellacher Alm. At the Dellacher Alm, we keep to the right and take the road that climbs uphill. After about 7 km, we reach the Poludnigalm (1,724 m above sea level). We can park our motorcycles in a small parking lot in front of the alpine pasture.
Watch out: Sometimes the cattle are also interested in the motorcycles gleaming in the sun.
Tip: Park your motorcycles in the fenced-off parking lot. Use your break to take a short walk around the alpine pasture to catch a glimpse of the 1,999-meter-high Poludnig, or to take a nap on the fresh alpine grass.
Please note: The Eggeralm is a popular destination, so there is a lot of oncoming traffic. The road is paved and very winding. The route from the Dellacher Alm to Poludnig is only partially paved.
Special features: The famous "Gailtaler-Almkäse" cheese is also produced on the Egger Alm. The famous "Kaiser Schmarr`n" is served on the Dellacher Alm at the "Paula". If you want to swap your motorcycle for hiking boots, you can reach the Poludnig summit from the Poludnig Alm in 45 minutes.
